No where is this more the case than among a community of Rastafarians, who have settled in the small southern Ethiopian town of Shashamene. The Rastafarians, who are mainly from Jamaica, started migrating to Ethiopia 38 years ago, when Haile Selassie, whom they consider to be God incarnate, gave them 500 hectares of land on which to settle. Since the first 12 Jamaican settlers in 1963, the community has grown to over 200 families. This documentary shows where the word Ska originate from, in Jamaica, and when the music hit london in 1964, Ska was big among the music of the time in london, but never promoted abroad, there were artist like Millie Small, Prince Buster, Derrick Morgan and many others hitting the charts. Even the group Madness got their name from one of Prince Buster records. Mostly at the time the ska music was played in blues dances and house parties.
